Storytelling for Social Change on April 12

Join us on April 12 at 6:30-8PM for a discussion on storytelling for social change. In a world of facts and data, is there room for storytelling? How can we use stories to promote social and cultural change? Our panelists will discuss the use of stories and storytelling – and how helping people tell their own stories– can change the world.

Panelists: 

Gwen Frisbie-Fulton is the Communications Director at Down Home North Carolina, a statewide organizing group building multiracial power in rural North Carolina. Gwen is a storyteller focused on gender, race and class in the South with a special interest in bottom-up stories told by the people who live them. She is a columnist for the Greensboro News and Record and contributor for publications including Human Parts, Gen Mag, The Democracy Guardian, and Yes Magazine. She lives in Greensboro with her kid and her cat, both of whom are great. 

Austin Horne (he/they) is the LGBTQ+ Outreach Specialist at Family Service of the Piedmont, which is Guilford County’s largest non-profit serving survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault. Austin is one of five LGBTQ+ Specialists in the state working with UNCG under the Domestic Violence Response Initiative. They collaborate with organizations in Greensboro and High Point to provide education on sexual assault prevention, LGBTQ+ issues, and social change at the community level.
