Writers as Witnesses: Free Speech in a Time of Hate Speech

On January 29, 2020 UNCG-NCA CCCC co-sponsored a panel discussion with the Greensboro Historical Museum, Scuppernong Books, Greensboro Bound, and PEN America. At the event, entitled “Writers as Witnesses: Free Speech in a Time of Hate Speech,” panelists Jonathan Friedman of PEN America, Allen Johnson of the Greensboro News and Record, Alejandro Beutel of the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism, and Steve Mitchell of  Scuppernong Books discussed the tensions between hate speech and the First Amendment. More than 60 community members participated in the questions and answers portion of the program moderated by Dr. Spoma Jovanovic, Director of UNCG-NCA CCCC.
